Portable Mac Problems?

Is there a decline of quality with Apple portable computers? It's what Charles Moore suggest in his latest column. By always making things lighter and slimmer we generally get a more fragile device.

Personnally, I remember I never heard so much serious problems with Mac portables. But has it comes to his mind that it could be simply because there is more portable circulating that there is more problems with them? Whatever, this only give me another reason to keep using my strong orange iBook some more years.

Software patents (bis)

I would never had thought of finding a such good example of stupid use of software patents. I do not like so much Microsoft, but it's somewhat ridiculous that a company called E-Data can launch a litigation on the claim they own in Europe a supposedly-valid patent on:

the transmission of information to a remote point-of-sale location, where information is then transferred to a material object

This description apparently fit the sale of a song at the Microsoft music store that can be burned later to a CD. But what does it do not covers? You can think what you want, but it has not much sense to me.

The panther is comming

It is now official: Mac OS X 10.3 Panther will be on the shelf on October 24. The release date was easy to guess because it is the continuing of an established patern.

  • First Macintosh: January 24, 1984
  • Mac OS X 10.0: March 25, 2001
  • Mac OS X 10.1: September 24, 2001
  • Mac OS X 10.2 "Jaguar": August 24, 2002
  • Mac OS X 10.3 "Panther": October 24, 2003

But did you knew Steve Jobs birth date was Febuary 24, 1955?

Direct on target

It has been some time now since I wanted to have a good French reference site about style-sheets and I think I found exactly what I want. Welcome to OpenWeb, a site made by a collective of people working with web standards.
