Black Light Pro: What’s new?
Discontinued
Black Light Pro is no longer. Its functionalities have been merged into Black Light 3.
Black Light Pro is a supercharged version of Black Light. It includes a more complex preference panel and more powerful features:
- Multiple effects you can pre-configure and assign hot keys to.
- Choose which effect to apply to which screen. If you want one screen inverted and another dimmed, you can.
- Timer, sunset, and sunrise based activation and deactivation of each effect.
- Customizable transition duration when switching effects. There’s a duration setting for manual actions and a separate one for timer actions.
- More sophisticated system that can avoid the occasional “flash of normal colors” based on creating a custom color profile for each screen.
- Launch at login option so the app starts automatically after starting up your computer.
Detailed History
Version 1.2 (13 February 2020)
- Can now set global hot keys for configuring active effects without having to open the preference panel.
- Hot key actions will now show an temporary overlay on screen.
Version 1.1 (17 September 2019)
Black Light Pro is now available on the Mac App Store.
The app is now sandboxed. A bypass was implemented using an external process in order to update the color profile. Updating the color profile is not available in the Mac App Store version however.
Management of the color profile is more robust. This should fix an issue where Black Light Pro could silently crash after performing a transition.
Version 1.0.3 (25 April 2019)
Fixed a crash that could occur when applying a new color profile to a screen that has become unavailable.
Reseting gamma curve more proactively on quit, instead of counting on macOS to do it for us. This does not change the behavior of the app but resolves a somewhat nebulous issue with video capture and/or playback with certain applications on particular hardware configurations.
Version 1.0.2 (28 December 2018)
- Fixed a bug where “Clear effet on other screens” would not be taken into account if the computer was sleeping or Black Light Pro was closed at the activation time for the effect.
- Changing the affected screens for the selected effect will now immediately unapply the effects for screens that are not chosen. Previously, you’d need to manually deactivate and reactivate the effect to see the expected result.
Version 1.0.1 (23 September 2018)
- Fixed a bug where timer transitions occasionally lost their fade-in/fade-out after the app had been inactive for a while.
Version 1.0 (20 September 2018)
- Initial release.
